An Art Exhibition by Kazue Taguchi

Another great thing about the Vermont Studio Center is having visual artists around, and some of them are international with long-term artist residencies. About two days ago I met Kazue Taguchi from Japan (currently living in Brooklyn but she got her MFA at Virginia Commonwealth where my good friends Sam Shaw and Howard Chung went…) who comes off as very modest although she’s got an international reputation. She spent ten years in Spain studying glass, which is what she specializes in (yes, she speaks Spanish).
Kazue works a lot with light. Whether it’s with glass, neon, or mylar. She used to create stain glass in Spain. Now she bends glass for her neon, which is very fragile. While setting up her neon exhibit she broke one of the pieces. This she pantomimes as a puncture to the heart. Another media she uses is mylar, which she glues in curves and waves on the wall. The mylar then reflects the light onto the wall creating delicate patterns of light strokes.
To find out more about Kazue Taguchi’s work, which this blog does no justice to, visit her website and be in awe!
